The village of Magoar is uniquely situated as a holiday location for many reasons. Firstly, on a practical level, there is easy access to the ports of Roscoff (One hours drive) and St. Malo (One and a half hours drive) and worthy of a visit away from the ferry ports in their own right. The varied and beautiful coastlines are 40 minutes away and boast fine sandy beaches for swimming and bathing to rugged seascapes, cliffs, and breathtaking views, and to picturesque ports, where `catches` of mussels, oysters and fish can be observed. Boat excursions to many of the `Iles` abound and here nature and bird reserves can be visited. Creperies, seafood restaurants, cafes and restaurants all offer tempting local fayre everywhere.
Medieval and historically interesting towns are in abundance throughout Brittany, offering a glimpse of `times gone by. Houses with timber clad fronts and narrow cobbled streets, ancient fortresses, chateaux, manor houses, churches, chapels, monuments and architecture typical only to Breton. Walk around a street corner and mingle with the locals bustling about on market day- or attend one of the many festivals – both a real must when visiting the local towns and villages.
Near Magoar are several beautiful lakes, with play areas built for children. Canoeing, fishing, swimming and boating are available at some, but not all. There are many designated walks around the lakes and in the many forests indeed the whole surrounding countryside is a `hikers/walkers paradise` with lots of marked walks throughout the area and near the gorge about 5 minutes away.
