Monts Jura (altitude: 900 to 1,680 m) is the main ski resort of the Ain department and stands at the doorstep of the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park. The villages of Mijoux and Lélex, at the foot of the highest summits of the Jura Mountain, form the ski resort of Monts Jura, which provide 4 ski areas with plenty of opportunities for winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. This ski resort is located only a few kilometers from the Swiss border and from the city of Geneva.
Ski schools offer classes in different ski activities such as cross-country, skating, downhill, surfing, telemark.
Mijoux and Lélex are the 2 authentic mountain villages in this popular family resort, which has kept their heritage and traditions.
The Valserine river crosses Mijoux, the inhabitants of the right bank are in the Jura department (Franche-Comte region) and those on the left bank are in the Ain department (Rhone-Alpes region). In Mijoux, the paintings on the house facades illustrate the various trades of the past. The village is home to the precious stones museum.
Downhill Skiing
Facing the Lake Leman and Mont-Blanc panorama, 2 sites (Mijoux-La Faucille and Lélex-Crozet) are connected with a ski bus and share a network of 50 km of runs and 30 ski lifts, making downhill skiing available for skiers of all ability levels. Runs levels range from beginners (14 green), intermediate (10 blue), advanced (8 red) and expert (2 black). A night time run is available in Lélex (green) and in Mijoux (blue).
Cross-Country Skiing
Skiers discover a nordic ski paradise with 140 km groomed track and skating trails in 2 areas of different elevation, linked by a downhill slope:
the international site of La Vattay (1,300-1,500m): 80 km of trails, known for its vast plateaus and famous for its high level competition trails. The panorama over the Mont-Blanc is breathtaking.
the Valserine site (900-1,100m): 60 km of trails snake along the valley between evergreen forest and the river and connect the two villages of the resort.
Other Activities
Snowboarding: Lélex-Crozet site provides a snow park, half pipe and a boarder-cross.
Snowshoeing and hiking: 35 km of marked itineraries from Mijoux and Lélex. It is an easy, gratifying way to access the snowy back country on paths less traveled.
Sled area: at the Col de la Faucille (La Faucille pass), Lélex and Crozet
Hiking: 3 cabin lifts access the crests line which connects the highest summits of Jura: Cret de la Neige (altitude 1,718 m), Reculet, Mont-Rond, Colombey de Gex...
