Haute-Joux and Mont-noir ski area is the fastest to access if coming from Paris by the TGV (high speed train). The elevation of the villages ranges from 1,000 to 1,200 m and skiers can enjoy 170 km (106 miles) of cross-country trails and a good amount of snow. Haute-Joux and Mont-Noir area mainly are for cross-country skiing. Foncine-le-Haut the largest village of this area and 20 km (12 miles) from city of Champagnole is the only place for downhill skiing.

Foncine le Haut, Altitude: 860 to 1,275 m. A dynamic village of about 860 inhabitants, in the heart of the Jura Mountains near Switzerland, at a distance of 12 km (7 miles) from Mouthe. The altitude and the climate give enough snow in winter, for about 4 months.
