A place in France, that sounds like fun
Lets go and worry not
On how we’ll live and what we’ll do
We care not just one jot
We sell the house and pack our lives
In cardboard and in plastic
We’re singing as we go along
Oh wont life be fantastic !
The agents are so kind to us
We never saw the light
They took us out for dinner and
Booked our hotel at night
We saw the house and fell in love
We left our heads behind
And let our hearts make mad a choice
The next thing, we had signed !
The night before our epic move
We partied till the dawn
Goodbyes behind us off we set
And feeling rather worn
Arrived in France , oh wondrous day
To start a better life
We headed south with van behind
If we had known the strife
Which lay in wait we may have turned
And fled , this little band
Who , tired and weary travelled on
Until we reached our land
Where stood the house, our place of dreams
But now instead of sun
Rain fell upon us as we worked
Until the day was done
The lorry gone, we’re on our own
The first night in our home
And suddenly we felt quite sad
And very much alone
A meal , I thought would cheer our souls
The stove I tried to light
With dampened wood it puthered smoke
We gave up for the night
All would be well by morning time
We told oursleves and lay
Upon our unmade bed to sleep
Whilst waiting for the day
In daylight all was far from well
The roof had leaked all night
Eratic power had let us use
Just one small bed side light
But not the microwave , it blew
In sickening regularity
And now we saw the faults for real
In all their cruel clarity
The toilet , well, we really tried
To see the funny side
The pipe at rear went through a wall
And ended up outside
It spilled into the garden
Where we had stood and planned
But plans did not include to have
Raw sewage on our land
We cried , we laughed , despair and joy
We felt most every day
Whilst toil and dust became routine
This was no game we played
But now we look with quiet pride
Upon our house of dreams
We’ve done it all , acheived our goal
It can be done, it seems !
